Research interests: Our major research interest is in mechanisms of mitotic control. We focus particularly on spatio-temporal control of mitosis by the GTPase RAN and its effectors belonging to the superfamily of nuclear transport receptors. We aim to characterise the underlying molecular mechanisms of this control, to understand their implications for the maintenance of genetic stability, and to identify vulnerabilities that these regulators might confer to cancer cells. 
Related interests concern a) the development and rational design of innovative antimitotic approaches of potential value in cancer treatment, including the design of strategies based on synthetic lethality to target mitosis, and b) the implementation of live cell imaging methods, both in basic studies of dynamic processes and in drug analysis.
