My research focuses on understanding how neurons communicate and how alterations of neuronal transmission relate to behavioral states in health and disease. Recent work is on:

·    Common alterations of hippocampal neuronal excitability in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and Epilepsy
·    Hippocampal synaptic transmission and plasticity in rodent models of AD and autism spectrum disorders
·    The involvement of microRNA-34 in synaptic transmission and its role in stress

Scientific Interests and Expertise

  • Hippocampal synaptic transmission and plasticity, alterations in Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), Autism Spectrum Disorders and infantile encephalopathies.
  • Regulation of neuronal excitability and alterations in AD
  • Synaptic transmission and stress-related alterations in the Dorsal Raphe Nucleus
  • My main technical expertise is ex vivo electrophysiology. In my work, I use pharmacological and viral mediated gene transfer to manipulate protein levels and function in neurons of rodents in vivo. We also regularly perform behavioral and molecular biology experiments, as well as computational modeling, in close collaborations with other laboratories.
