My research group has developed several research lines that all focus on a central theme, the  discovery and development of novel therapeutic strategies targeting tumor cells. My long term research goal is the translation of laboratory finding to early clinical trials. After my Bachelor of Science in Biology at Sapienza University in 1999, Imoved to the field of cancer biology at the Regina Elena Cancer Institute (Rome) where my research has contributed to the understanding of consequences that modulation of anti-apoptotic member of bcl-2 family induces in human cancer.  In particular during my PhD I found an important function for bcl-2 family proteins in angiogenesis. Then, I moved to Tumor Hypoxia Laboratory of the Developmental Therapeutics Program at the National Cancer Institute (NCI, Frederick, USA). Here, I investigated the molecular mechanism through which natural products induced apoptosis in cancer cells and the involvement of VEGF signaling in the survival of hypoxic cancer cells.  In 2012, I started my own group studying mechanisms of epigenetic drugs induced tumor cell death, supported by a  My first Grant AIRC.  I have recently started my own research group at IBPM, focusing on the multifaceted role of lysine acetylation in cancer stem cells biology and tumor angiogenesis.
